Hi, Karen.
There are great wordprocessors for Linux, but you have to be running the
gnome desktop with the screen reader gnopernicus, and have the java
accessibility bridge installed. Two wordprocessors  that are becoming
accessible is Openwriter and Starwriter.
The nice thing about both of these is that they can open and export MS Word
documents.
Although, accessibility is far from perfect give them a year or two and
accessibility will be much better in them.
