crimping ethernet without eyes

Well, as I haven't needed to do it since I wired my house about 8 years ago
I can't give a definitive answer as to which pin is pin 1, but it is
probably something that could be easily looked up.
As I said, since I hooked up all 8 wires at 1 end, all I needed to do was
then hook up the correct ones at the other end.
My recollection here is, and it may be totally erroneous is, that when you
hold the cable with the plug facing away with the slots facing up, pin 1 is
the 1 on the left.
If you can't find the info somewhere, and this doesn't work, then trial and
error always is fine, then pin 1 may be the 1 on the right.
I think when I did it the cable ends either had a pin 1 marked, or the
package they came in had instructions that spelled out which was pin 1, and
I drafted 1 of my sons to check it out for me.
