Crossfading is when you fade out from one song right into another. In 
some cases the 2 songs/files are briefly mixed while the one that is 
ending fades out. Most professional internet/regular radio stations do 
this. I'd also be curious to know if such a thing exists, possibly as an 
mplayer plugin?
