linux and vpn

Don't know bout much documentation but I use the Cisco VPN client; I
got the binaries from my network administrator at work as he had to
download them from the Cisco website.  I got the impression that part
of their web site required private authorization or something.  I
thought I saw some stuff on IP tunneling or something and I think that
is a part or variance to VPN.
