route question

Hi all.
I guess the last couple of days is my turn to ask networking questions
(smile).
Looking at the output of route, which is as follows:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref
Use Iface

I notice that I have my default route to my external interface, but
although my internal interface is configured, there is no route to
it. Should I have a route to my internal interface as a gateway, and
if so, could someone please tell me what the route add command should
look like? Specifically, I don't know what I'd put in for the internal
interface instead of default.
