>From what I've heard from several Linux users, the previous version of redhat, shrike, wasn't very good. I don't know why they'd
say that, but what would be the advantages of going to Fedora, as far as packages and stability?
Thanks,

Hello, Steve.
Shrike is actually the previous version of Red Hat. The current version is
Fedora and has many updates including gnome 2.4, gnopernicus, as well as
many other packages.
You might want to hold off your install until you grab Fedora.
Hth.

Subject: new RedHat user with a question

Hi folks,
I am taking the big plunge and am working on getting the latest version of
RedHat installed on my laptop. I have downloaded the three Shrike iso images
and have burned each image to a CDR. When I boot up my laptop with CD 1 in
the CD-ROM drive, the CD spins up, but as far as I can ascertain the Linux
boot screen does not appear. Instead, my computer boots right up into
Windows. My guess is that the BIOS needs to be set, but I'm not entirely
certain if this is the case. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate
them.
My apologies if this has been brought up on this list before. If this is the
case, feel free to reply to me privately.
Thanks,
Steve
