Help - slow performance on a Toshiba laptop

Hi Hank,

Your Slackware 9.1 installation should run okay right out of the
box, but to get max performance you may need to tweak things here
and there, and possibly change some kernel settings as I did. But
you can work your way up to max speed as you get accustomed to
the new environment. I have been using this crippled system
relatively happily for quite a while before I found the magic key
to faster disk I/O yesterday. Your HD will not run any slower
than mine did until yesterday.
