running Knoppix

    Hi Terry,
Well, I did get Knoppix up and running with the addition of the following
command to my initial command:
apm=power-off
But I have never used Linux before, so when I got in, all I knew how to do
is type:
man
and I had to go through a list of hundreds of topics.

Can you or someone else give an idea of some commands to try out?
And if I need help in Linux, do I type the name of what I am looking for
after the word man?

On re-reading your original post, I don't think that the 'apm' is the reason
your system isn't booting. If the 'apm' hardware isn't there (ie you aren't
on a laptop with battery) 'apm' just won't do anything. I can't say what is
causing your problem, but I doubt it's 'apm'.

Once you get up and running though, I'd recommend disabling the module for
'apm' (or if it is not modular in knoppix,  compiling a kernel to fit your
hardware more exactly). One thing you won't need is 'apm', unles I'm missing
something here and your hardware does indeed support it.
