flashing dectalk

Actually, I already tried that. And it appears to not work. I'm starting 
to think that I need to have an unreserved serial port for version 
identification to work propperly. Has anyone been able to send the :ver 
speak command directly to the express, even with Speakup running and 
using the synth?
