IP address

I have a router and I also have XP on the router, so I did the windows XP
command in a Dos Shell:
ipconfig
and I took the IP address for the XP machine of:
192.168.0.106
and subtracted one to be:
192.168.0.105
and it worked for my FTP server as well as Debian in general.
I don't know how I would have gottin the IP address without having the XP
machine on the same router.

ifconfig only works if you are not behind a router. That is, you will get an
ip address but it will be something like 192.168... That won't help you get
the actual external ip address which is what you will need.

What is the command I can use to find the IP address that my FTPD server can

be identified as on the www?
I typed man ftpd and did not find anything to help here.
Thanks
Glenn
