help with dpkg problem

Folks,

I posted this once before, but not totally sure if it made it to the 
list so will try again.

I'm trying to fix my box here. I tried installing a package and now I 
get the following error from dpkg. I am not sure at what point this all 
started, but would like to try to resolve it before taking much more 
drastic measures.

dpkg: syntax error: unknown group `Debian-exim' in statusoverride file
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

Any thoughts appreciated.
