As far as I know, you're always supposed to use only crossover cables
on uplink ports, I could be wrong though. To answer your question,
yes, I have tried a straight through cable on the uplink port, and no
other machine connected to the switch can communicate with the
machine connected straight through on the uplink port in that instance.
