Hi all,
I am trying to compile a new kernel to make hardware options work with my PC and to install the Speakup 1.5 version. I am running Debian 3.0 R2 which I installed with the installation files from the FTP site. This means I have 2.4.17 and Speakup 1.0.
I have tried compiling 2.4.26, 2.6.2, and 2.6.5 with the same results. When doing the make config, the only prompt I get pertaining to Speakup is whether I have a Doubletalk PC or not. Speakup is not mentioned anywhere in the config. Below is what I am doing.
Unpack clean kernel image and Speakup
Set Linux symbolic link
Change to Speakup folder and type ./install with no significant errors
Change to Linux
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
Copy System.map and bzImage to /boot and rename them
Set up symbolic links in / to point to the new files
Run lilo
The kernel boots fine, but there is no speech. I can get back into 2.4.17 with speech by using my linuxold entry.
At this point I am totally frustrated. What am I doing wrong? Please help!!!
Best Regards from Ohio, U.S.A.
Vic
