speechd-up, almost there

Hello again folks,
  I've gotten speech-dispatcher and speechd-up installed and configured, but I've hit one minor snag; Speech-dispatcher is unable to open either the Flite or Dectalk for speech output. The Emacspeak servers for both modules appear to work so I'm a bit stumped here.
