Cheryl and others,
I can confirm Cheryl's observation about the failure of the
DECtalk "say" command to finish processing a file of moderate
size. What I did was use the sample text file provided with the
flite engine, doc/alice, as input to Flite and then as input to
DECtalk, saving the results in wav files for comparison. The
resulting speech was nearly a half hour in length. It was
completely processed by Flite, but very nearly 10% of the end of
the file was missing with the DECtalk "say" command, and a
sputter of punctuation marks was its dying gasp. Not too nice for
generating portable speech files.
