Understanding hardware support

Knoppix is a good distribution. The only problem I have had with it is 
that I can't seem to switch the language from German to English. 
Therefore, I'd sudgest one of the Slackware-9.1 Cds, which can act as 
livecds like Knoppix. There's also Slax, however I'm not sure exactly 
where one can obtain it.
