reverting from Alsa?

Hi
You wouldn't happen to be using a 2.6 kernel, would you? I'm having that
exact same problem attempting to use ALSA on a 2.6 kernel. Do:
uname -r
to see your kernel version if you're not sure what it is.
If you're refering to dectalk software version 5, I don't really think the
problem is with your ALSA drivers--that's just the new dectalk sound. It
sounds like that on my SB live 5.1 with alsa 1.0.3. While I'm not
over-fond of the new dectalk sound, I think I can get used to it and I'd
keep it for the responsiveness alone--it's much more responsive than 4.61
was, especially since the delays 4.61 had are gone.

I got that to work, but probably because of the OSS drivers for my sound chip, the quality of the Dectalk speech sounded like it had been sampled to half its original value with a lot of aliasing. As such, I decided to try getting Alsa running on here again. I followed the instructions found at

If I do a "make clean" from the drivers, library, and utilities directory, is there a chance that my OSS drivers will re-assert themselves until I can find out what's going wrong? Bad-sounding audio is better than none, after all.
