switching languages in Knoppix?

Hi all. I want to get Knoppix so I can test it on a laptop I have access 
to here. However, a friend of mine who has recently used it has been 
having a problem where he can't switch the language from German to 
English. And he didn't find any mention of this in what I believe are 
called the cheat codes? Has anyone run into this and if so how does one 
work around it? Just figured I'd ask before hand so I don't get stuck 
trying to read non-Iso-8859.
