speak freely via a router

Hi all.
I was wondering if it is possible to use speak freely through I router.
I ask this question for two reasons:
1.  I heard a few days ago something about speakfreely and router
configurations
2.  I tried getting on the echo server with my laptop, which runs through
my desktop (a windows router unfortunately), with no firewalls, and don't
get any responces; I've done local connects and it works fine.
Any suggestions would be appriciated.
