Speakup does have a
way to let other programs talk to the synth, but the other programs will
have to be written to use it.

what you need to do is 2 things.
1.
make the device /dev/synth with mknod /dev/synth -c 10 25
then rewrite the speech servers which are tcl scripts to make use of
/dev/synth.
that's all ther is to it.
