usb mass storage question

Do the following:

1. Turn off your machine.
2. Connect the drive to the computer and ensure it is powered on.
3. Power on the machine.
4. Log on to the machine as root.
5. If you have the USB drivers compiled in to the kernel, skip this step. If
not, issue this command.

modprobe usbstorage

(the name of the module may be usb-storage not usbstorage, I can't remember)

6. Issue this command:

dmesg > messages.txt

Now, mail the messages.txt file to me so that I can review the kernel
messages. You should send this to me privately so as not to clog the list
with it. My address is at the bottom of this message.
