speakup question?

Well, Speakup is a patch to the kernel, so it's not like you go get an
application and run it. Having said that there are installation disks
that include Speakup for Debian, Red Hat, and Slackware on the Speakup
site. These give you a talking installation of Linux.

Once installed, with a kernel patched with Speakup, you just need to
modprobe for your synth -- with the newest CVS Speakup vesion.
Alternatively, you can compile the driver for your synth into the kernel
and have speech come up through an append line in lilo or grub.
