Strange Raid Behaviour

I followed instructions and did the following:
I stopped Raid
I did mkraid -f /dev/md0
I did resize2 which told me that I had to run e2fsck -f /dev/md0 first
I ran that and the thing has been sitting not giving me any output for
almost an hour.  Should I stop it?  Should I have stopped raid before doing
the e2fsck?
