FSCK.EXT3 command

RE: FSCK.EXT3 commandThe command is mke2fs to build an ext2 or ext3 filesystem. Yu can also use mkfs -t ext2 or mkfs -t ext3 if you don't need to specify a lot of complex options to build the fs.

  there's an fdisk to establish partitions and yes there is some equivilent of the dos format command.  I _believe_ it's of the form mkextfs for ext2 but won't swear to it!
