Speakup compilation problems

I'm running kernel 2.4.21 under Debian, with lowlatency/preemptive
kernel patches applied. This morning I backed up my working source tree,
grabbed Speakup CVS, applied the patches successfully with no rejects,
but when trying to build I get the following error:

ld -m elf_i386 -T /usr/src/linux-2.4.21/arch/i386/vmlinux.lds -e stext arch/i386/kernel/head.o arch/i386/kernel/init_task.o init/main.o init/version.o init/do_mounts.o \
	--start-group \
	arch/i386/kernel/kernel.o arch/i386/mm/mm.o kernel/kernel.o mm/mm.o fs/fs.o ipc/ipc.o \

	net/network.o \
	/usr/src/linux-2.4.21/arch/i386/lib/lib.a /usr/src/linux-2.4.21/lib/lib.a /usr/src/linux-2.4.21/arch/i386/lib/lib.a \
	--end-group \
	-o vmlinux
fs/fs.o(.text+0x1493c): In function `dput':
: undefined reference to `atomic_dec_and_lock'
make[1]: *** [vmlinux] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.21'
make: *** [stamp-build] Error 2

This doesn't happen on the pre-Speakup tree. Any ideas what might be
causing this? Is there any additional information I can provide?

Thanks.
