How do I send audio to a file?

If I run festival -tts [some_file.txt] 

I get to listen to festival speak thaat text file. But, I want to send
that audio to a file, perhaps a .wav. How would I go about that? I tried
piping it to arecord, but got nowhere and I don't quite understand why.
