This info is contained in the speakup announcement for each version, which
can be found in the tarball of each release.  Since I happen to have both
unpacked on my system, I can tell you that speakup 1.0 requires at least
kernel 2.2.18 or any 2.4.x kernel (though more recent 2.4 x kernels
probably don't work, 2.4.12 was current at time of release).  Speakup 1.5
requires at least 2.2.18 or 2.4.18.  Note that with recent 2.4.x kernels
(2.4.22 for example), a hunk will fail when patching.  This is nothing to
worry about, as the particular hunk fails because that code has been
included in the kernel sources themselves so it doesn't need to be patched
in.
