Ari, When I run id I get the following. uid=500(showell) gid=500(showell) groups=500(showell),503(x10) I did try logging out of one shell and logging back in with no change. The program just says it can't write to that directory. The directory is off /etc, but I wouldn't think this would matter. tnx Scott
