Speakup's Eelimitter Feature?

Just a question,

How is this delimitter feature supposed to work? I also notice that
when I read a word at a time now, that periods are breaking up the
word I.E. an IP address.  Is there any way a user can change this back
to like the way speakup 1.5 does it?
