wget ssl support

Hi
I'm attempting to use https with wget, and am running in totrouble.
I am getting the error unsupported scheme, and I have my .wgetrc file in my
home directory setup like this
http-user=user at host.net
http-password=mypassword
then I am doing
wget -m https://www.somesiteonline.com/directory/
and I get unsupported scheme..
