ppp-go problem

ppp-go isn't working on the speakup kernel distributed in the slackware
8.0.0 boxed set for me yet.  The serial modem works since I can use
minicom to go out onto the internet and connect to accounts.  I ran
pppsetup and answered all of the questions then tried running ppp-go -d
and was told either ppp wasn't installed in the kernel which is 2.2.19
presently or was missing and this was a pppd error.  This is a bit
different from zipspeak that ran on slackware 7.2.  Are there some things
I need to do to get this working?  ppp.o.gz is actually living in
/lib/modules/2.2.19/net now.
