cdrom/cdr trouble or ide1 problem: BIG TROUBLE I think

Ok you are most likely looking at hardware failure.
Plug 1 device into the chain at a time and make sure it assigns an irq to ide1
and shows either device.
the device plugged in should show as scsi 0,0,0
