mail notification

Hi all,

I'm running slackware 8.0. Ever since upgrading from mbox format to maildir format, when I login, I'm being told that I have no mail even if I do. With the old mbox format, the notification worked correctly.

I've looked in /etc/profile, and have disabled bif, comsat has been disabled for some time in /etc/inetd.conf. Even so, I still get the mail notification upon login. Can someone please tell me what is responsible for the notification and if it supports maildir mailboxes? If it doesn't support maildir, then please tell me how to disable it. I would rather not be notified, then be notified misleadingly. Thanks in advance.
