problem with installing speakup

I'm trying to install Linux Mandrake 8.1, and i try to use speakup with  But in fact I can't install speakup work with it.
Any case , I try to unzip speakup-1.00.tar.gz for using with Linux but I can't use.
Please tell me which software i can use like JAWS under Linux Mandrake 8.1.
