Building Slackware Packages

Has anyone on the list built their own slackware packages?
Conceptually, I understand what to do but am hung up on the directory
structure just a bit.  Everything is based on a base "/" directory but
when building the package, I don't want to drop the components into
the actual working environment just yet.  If anyone has indeed done
this, could you give me the steps you took to do it?
