networking problems

Deedra: 
I am confused about one small item, if you plan to have your desktop act 
as a dhcp server why would you be specifying a gateway address on your 
notebook, the dhcpd server will assign the notebook its gateway when it 
broadcasts for and obtains an ip.
If I have confused matters as I rather suspect I may have, please let me 
know and if I can offer other suggestions based on my somewhat limitted 
experience I'd be happy to do so.
