acpi and the str/s3 state

Hi all,

There is a small problem that I can't figure out. I've got a machine with win98se. The biosis setup for acpi, and the suspend state is set to s3 in the bios. The power supply is 300W. I also have the latest bios installed for my board.

When I let windows put the machine on standby, everything turns off like it's supposed to. The power supply fan turns off as well, so I know that it's infact going into s3/str state. However, pressing anything on the keyboard, or clicking/moving the mouse doesn't wake the machine up. When I hit the power button on the box, my system speaker sounds a high-pitched beep (not the standard everything is ok post beep), and just sits there. Of course the power supply fan spinns up, and I can hear my hd and other fans spinning up as well, but that's it. No response from the keyboard, no video, and no sound from the on-board ac97 sound.

When I hit the reset or power key, the machine powers down. When I next hit the power key to turn it back on, it starts up, gives me the normal everything is ok post beep, and windows starts up like it does when one first turns on the machine.

I just baught the motherboard, so I'm assuming it has the latest bios. According to the manufacterrur, the latest bios shouldn't have any acpi issues. The board is an Abit VH6T.

One thing I found surprising is that in most new bioses, you have the option to power on by hotkey, or by windows 98 keyboard. However, this bios has none of thoes choices.

Before anyone admonishes me, yes, I did do a search on google. However, the pages that I found either weren't there anymore, or they explained what acpi is, and how the s3 state works. I know what acpi is and how the s3 state works. My impression has been and still is that hitting any button on the keyboard should bring the machine out of the s3 state, and I should be exactly where I left off in windows. Is this infact correct? Do any of the experts out there have suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.
Greg
