I don't understand what you mean by "Are you up to speed on downloading".
I don't know english very well and I assume this is an expression.

Does it mean "if I know to untar the files and to install the drivers?

If yes, well, I don't know.
I've compiled  links  from its source, but this is my first compilation.
If there will be any compilation problems, I won't know how to solve them,
but I will ask.
I hope I will find a good driver.

However, I've ran a Perl script that tested the modem and it told me that
this modem has an optical / electrical bla bla (I don't remember the term)
and that it is very possible that I won't find any driver for it.

You're looking for drivers that support "Lucent Microelectronics 56k." Any
drivers you find for that you get, install per directions, and try.

Are you up to speed on downloading tar.gz and tar.bz, then unpacking them
and compiling?
