Hi all. Well I finally figured it out.

It seems that the speakup.i and the color.gz files found on the Speakup
website were the culprits. I kept trying to use the speakup.i file
because it is supposed to be better with ppp, but I took a gamble and
used the speakup.i file in the bootdsks.144 directory of the Slackware
CD and it works.

So in summary... My fix was to use the files off of the Slackware CD.

Thank you to all that helped. I really appreciate it.
Rodney
