i Janina.
Well it isn't as critical as it might have been a couple of months ago.
My wife and I do use the computer for banking and scanning, but now all
that mission-critical stuff is on her machine.
I just chalked it up to dumb luck and once I checked that the drive was ok
and all that, I proceeded to install Linux on the back 10 gigs, leaving
the front for Windows. The gentleman who may be able to help
me with re-installation of windows is an ardent Linux user, so he won't be
stricken at the site of the Lilo prompt.

I think I'm really beginning to enjoy using Linux. I'm even getting used
to the way Speakup works in Pine.
I've become fairly competent with Windows over the years, but always that
thing hangs over me, "if you accidentally or otherwise blow it away,
you're sunk until you get eyes in there." Such was not the case with
Linux thanks to the efforts of people like Kirk and others. I know it's
probably a goofy thing to be insistent about, but it was nice to actually
install it from the bottom up and have it working.
Anyway, enough of my ranting, but I just wanted to let you know I'm not
presicely heart broken over the loss of my Windows partition. BTW, I like
the idea of a beep in the booting message for Lilo.
