please help with timidity

Hi alll,

I have read the timidity man page over and over again, and am becomming frustrated.
I'm trying to convert a midi file to a wave file.
According to the man page, I do the following:

timidity -Ow file.mid >file.wav

When I try to play the resulting wave file, sox tells me that the file doesn't have a riff header.

Could someone please give me the correct commandline input so that I could convert this midi file to wave? Thanks in advance for any help.
