LOADING MODULES?

Hello list, I have just compiled a new 2.4.16 kernel and I get complaints 
from 'modprobe' that it can not locate any of my modules.  The modules in 
question are in my /lib/modules/2.4.13 tree.  Moving them to my 
/lib/modules/2.4.16 tree doesn't give better results either.  Is there a 
file someware which contains the path to my modules directory?
