help with orientation to thinkpad t23

Well, so much for some of my wild guesses!
Now that I accidentally turned the thinkpad on, I found the cdrom. It is on the
right hand side and when you push a button it slides out to put the cd on. So I
still don't know what the opening on the left side is. It seems to be not long
enough for a diskette/floppy. However, I do appear to be right about the other
piece with an opening that came separate; that does fit a floppy.
