got a dead kernel here

Hi all.
I am in the process of releasing kernel 2.4.19 for speakimage with some improvements. I have compiled kernel 2.4.19 twice with the newest cvs of speakup with the same result: the kernel is dead. I have tested it with a braille blazer and braille 'n speak using the bns driver, but nothing happens after the kernel is done loading, there is no speech. I've also specified the serial port, but that doesn't help either. When I wait a while, insert the root disk, and hit enter, the floppy just makes a little noise, and that's it.
I believe that there are a couple of sighted folks here. If so, then would some of you please take the time to download
http://www.romuald.net.eu.org/disks.tar.bz2
, and let me know what the heck is going on? The tarball is 2.7 megs, and contains the boot disk, as well as the original partition image root disk. Of course, those using synths are welcome to download it as well, and let me know if you get speech and what is going on. I do have a doubletalk pc as well, but that's in my server, and I would rather not take the server down for a reboot.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Greg
P.S. My synths do work just fine with my custom-built kernels.
P.P.S. Ignore the speakup version displayed in the welcome message of the boot loader.
