mike with alsamixer

Hi Cheryl.  Try this command

Amixer set "AC'97" 0 capture 100%

Once you have entered this command, do an alsactl store, and then never
ever touch the "AC'97" control again.  If you do, you'll have to either
do an alsactl restore to get it back to the proper setting, or give the
above amixer command again.
