do you run the latest fermware?  The latest is something like febaruary 2002
or something like that.

I don't have the manual with me right now, but I don't think anything was
mentioned. Speach box mode does turn on though, and works with limited
success.
I posted on the fs support list quite a while back when I was trying to get
it to run as a synth rather than a braille display under jaws. I just now
remembered what happened there.
I did get a note that speach box mode wasn't supported any longer, but a
little argument got started on the list and there were many requests to have
it put back in so I don't know what eventually was done.
