Web Mail

Hi All,

Here is the results of my looking for a Web Mail package. That is of course, if you are in the least bit interested.

I have settled on a package called "squirrelmail". This package was not mentioned in the short discussion about Web Mail, but a search using google.com found this package for me amongst others.

Squirrelmail is quite easy to install, and is accessible with speakup. It is easy to configure, not that much to do unless you want to get really fancy with it. The web side client is viewable through lynx with little or no difficulty. (My problem is that I am not over familiar with lynx as I am with other browsers. you lynxperts would find it a breeze.) Now when I am away from home, I am able to use a Web browser to read my mail. This means, that I will be able to use any computer that has access to the Web, with the capability of speech, to check in and read the mail.

So if you have ever wanted to or ever want to check your email when you are not at home, then I recommend squirrelmail as an excellent solution.

To install squirrelmail:
Debian users can do the good old
apt-get install squirrelmail
and sit back and enjoy the beverage close to hand.
RedHat users will first need to get the rpms, of which there are 3, and then do a
rpm -U ...
I do not believe that squirrelmail is available to the apt4rpm users.

Note: Squirrelmail requires you to have imap and php installed and running on your machine.

Squirrelmail can be found at
squirrelmail.org

Thanks to Keith Watson for testing with me last night. We both installed squirrelmail, Keith on a Debian box and myself on a RedHat box, and we tested each others setup using both lynx and that other operating systems browser, Windows Exploder. I think that I can speak for Keith when I say that we are both happy with how accessible and easy squirrelmail is to use.
