Thanks for the tip; I ran through the man page quickly but apparently missed
that valuable section. Sounds like winamp to me:)

You can gett some of the functionality you want from mpg123. Using the
--control command line option lets you use f to go forward, b to go back,
"," to rewind, "." to fastforward, q to quit, s to stop, and p to pause.
It also has a --shuffle and --random option. If you read the mpg123 man
page you can see that it does a lot. For all your other stuff you will
need to check out alsa. I am still trying to get alsa working here, so I
can't help you too much with it. Good luck.
