Actually, the checkbox in HTML will automatically come up with an 'x' in
Lynx. I don't think the developer has to do anything special to make this
happen.

Thanks for your comments.  Being blind I know the difficulties and was
asking about user preferences rather than those stated in guidelines.  I'm
currently looking up how to produce the "x" symbol in the checkbox.  Thanks
for that one.
