kernel compile.

Hi all. I have a major problem compiling my kernel. I want to compile
kernel 2.4.4 but on reading the logfile I created when I did make bzImage
>Image.log 2>&1 & I found that my version of gcc was too old for that
kernel. if this is so, what's the latest version of gcc?
